The much-awaited Rawalpindi Ring Road is finally nearing completion, but with a key change in plans. The Punjab government has decided to open the road without the Rs. 5 billion Thalian interchange, at least for now, to make the project operational as soon as possible.
Instead of the full interchange, authorities will temporarily connect the Ring Road to the motorway through a two-way carriageway, allowing traffic to flow while the pending work is completed later. Officials say this decision was taken to avoid further delays and ensure that the public can start benefiting from the project early.
Work on the project is now in its final phase, with more than 28 kilometers completed, bridges nearing completion, and construction continuing in multiple shifts. Once fully functional, the 38-kilometer-long Ring Road is expected to ease traffic pressure in Rawalpindi, although the delayed interchange may still affect traffic flow until it is eventually built.
